چکیده
Copyright 2015 irjpbs. Aim of the present study is to evaluate the preventive role of phytic acid on mitochondrial lipid peroxides, antioxidants and lipids in isoproterenol (ISO)-induced myocardial infarction (MI) in male Wistar rats. Rats subcutaneously injected with ISO (85 mg/kg) at an interval of 24 h for 2 days resulted in a significant increase in the levels of mitochondrial lipid peroxides with a significant decrease in the activities of mitochondrial antioxidants (SOD, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione-Stransferase and reduced glutathione). Induction of ISO also showed a significant increase in the levels of mitochondrial cholesterol, triglycerides and free fatty acids with a subsequent decrease in the levels of phospholipids. Oral pretreatment with phytic acid (25 and 50 mg/kg) to ISO-induced rats daily for a period of 56 days significantly decreased the levels of mitochondrial lipid peroxides with a significant increase in the activities of mitochondrial antioxidants and significantly minimized the alterations in the mitochondrial lipid levels in ISO-induced rats. Thus, the findings demonstrate that phytic acid prevents alterations in mitochondrial lipid peroxides, antioxidants and lipids in ISO-induced MI in rats.

this study was aimed to evaluate the preventive role of phytic acid on membrane bound enzymes such as sodium potassiumdependent adenosine triphosphatase (Na+ /K+ AtPase), calcium-dependent adenosine triphosphatase (ca2+ AtPase) and magnesiumdependent adenosine triphosphatase (Mg2+ AtPase) and glycoproteins such as hexose, hexosamine, fucose and sialic acid in isoproterenol (IsO)-induced myocard...
متن کاملPotential in vitro Protective Effect of Quercetin, Catechin, Caffeic Acid and Phytic Acid against Ethanol-Induced Oxidative Stress in SK-Hep-1 Cells
Phytochemicals have been known to exhibit potent antioxidant activity. This study examined cytoprotective effects of phytochemicals including quercetin, catechin, caffeic acid, and phytic acid against oxidative damage in SK-Hep-1 cells induced by the oxidative and non-oxidative metabolism of ethanol. Exposure of the cells to excess ethanol resulted in a significant increase in cytotoxicity, rea...
متن کاملDexmedetomidine attenuates lipopolysaccharide-induced acute lung injury by inhibiting oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction and apoptosis in rats
Previous studies have identified that dexmedetomidine (DEX) treatment can ameliorate the acute lung injury (ALI) induced by lipopolysaccharide and ischemia-reperfusion. However, the molecular mechanisms by which DEX ameliorates lung injury remain unclear. The present study investigated whether DEX, which has been reported to exert effects on oxidative stress, mitochondrial permeability transiti...

Background: Phytic acid is phosphated compound that exists as potassium - magnesium salt in aleurone layer of cereals. Phytic acid has a strong ability to chelate many minerals, such as calcium, iron and zinc. It changes these essential minerals to insoluble complexes and inhibits minerals bioavailability. In this study, effect of several lactic acid bacteria (casei, fermentum, plantarum ...
متن کاملInhibitory effect of citric acid on rancidity of frozen catfish (Silurus glanis)fillets
The effect of aqueous solution of citric acid (CA) on the lipid stability of the European catfish (Silurus glanis) fillets during frozen storage (up to 6 months) was investigated. Rancidity development was measured by several biochemical indices (free fatty acids, peroxides and TBA) and complemented by the measurement of expressible moisture and sensory evaluation (flesh odor, consistency and f...
